Where to stay in the Seychelles

My experience at four of the country's best resorts

Scattered across the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles is made up of 115 islands and two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, many of which feel like untouched worlds frozen in time. The beaches are unreal, the nature is incredible, and the hotels are some of the best I’ve ever stayed in. From barefoot luxury to sleek, modern resorts, each hotel had something special to offer. Here’s my take on some of the most memorable stays in the Seychelles, including the highlights that made them stand out.

Waldorf Astoria Platte Island

Best for activities

A fresh new addition to the Seychelles, Waldorf Astoria Platte Island has a sleek, contemporary design, with massive villas and a tonne of activities to keep you busy. The Creole beach night at the Tiki Bar was a real highlight, made even better by the legendary bartender Adul mixing up top-notch Takamaka rum cocktails.

The resort is set on Platte Island, which gives it an exclusive feel while still being accessible. One of the coolest things was the stargazing evening set up right on the runway strip – such a unique experience.

Six Senses Zil Pasyon

Best for wellness

Six Senses Zil Pasyon is a jungle-style retreat that sticks to the Six Senses focus on sustainability and serious luxury. The spa is unreal, probably their best feature. They offer body screenings and personalised wellness programmes, plus a suspended ladder walk leading to the yoga pavilion. Located on Félicité Island, it’s a short boat ride from La Digue or a scenic helicopter transfer from Mahé.

Other highlights include watching a film under the stars, hiking over the dramatic rock formations, and the water bottling plant experience. If you’re lucky enough to stay in one of the residences, the pool design is something special – you can actually see yourself swimming from above the living room!

Mango House

Best for romance

Mango House was a bit of a surprise. I expected one thing and got something completely different in the best way. It’s much more of a lifestyle hotel, feeling like a private escape in the middle of nowhere. I stayed in a sea-view room in the Cliff House section, which had a massive terrace and access to a hidden pool that nobody else seemed to know about, basically my own private paradise.

It’s about a 40-minute drive from Mahé Airport, making it easy to reach yet totally secluded. The fresh papaya at breakfast every morning was something I'll definitely remember.

Four Seasons Resort Seychelles At Desroches Island

Best for families

This Four Seasons is the ultimate Robinson Crusoe escape. There’s no phone signal and WiFi is inconsistent, so if you want to switch off completely, this is the dream. The service was outstanding, with thoughtful touches like my server, Lai Lai, remembering my breakfast order and even running me a bath after I mentioned wanting one at dinner.

The island has great swimming beaches, with Bombay Beach being my favourite. Activities include cycling, stargazing, tortoise feeding (including searching for George, a 130-year-old resident), and trail running. Families will love the bike-friendly paths, safe swimming waters, and dedicated kids’ and teens’ spaces. A 20-minute flight from Mahé gets you there.
