Inside the Mexican retreat that perfectly captures the ‘unhotel’ experience

All-inclusive, but not as you know it

Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, Punta Mita, set on Mexico's Pacific Coast, isn’t your typical resort. There’s no check-in desk, no paperwork and no set schedule, just a sense of being welcomed into a friend’s home (if that home came with plunge pools, ocean views and a taste for impromptu forest bathing after dark).

One of the smallest Four Seasons properties in the world, this adults-only all-inclusive escape trades resort formality for something freer. Your stay includes flexible all-day dining, premium wines and spirits, a complimentary spa journey per person, daily rituals and cultural activities.

Days here have their own quiet rhythm. Fifteen luxurious tented bungalows sit among lush greenery, each with an open-air living space, a private plunge pool and a wide deck that feels part of the forest. There are no TVs, only birdsong and the rustle of leaves. It’s easy to slow down, whether you start the morning with yoga by the ocean, set off on a snorkel safari to explore the tidal pools or simply drift between the pool and the shade as the day warms. The only drawback? You may never want to leave.

Wellness at Naviva flows far beyond the spa – it lives in the land, the air, and the people who guide you through it. Local shamans, some from families who have practiced for generations, embody the spirit of this place. They lead sound-healing journeys and gratitude temazcals that open space for stillness and renewal. In the House of Heat, a two-hour ritual of steam, chant, and reflection restores harmony to body and mind. Days unfold with cliffside yoga, mindful walks through nature, and Mexican boxing in an open-air gym with sweeping ocean views.

At Naviva, dining is a celebration of good food and good company – the simple joy of eating well, wherever the day takes you. Wander into the open-air kitchen and find chefs cooking over fire, the day’s catch sizzling beside just-picked herbs (no menus in sight). Meals here are measured in centimetres, not kilometres.

You can roast coffee beans to your preferred strength, learn the centuries-old art of seacuterie by curing fresh fish or join a tasting of small-batch Mexican wines created by an all-female vintner and winemaker team. Ingredients are chosen with care, from honey gathered from their own hives to vegetables picked fresh from the garden.

Next door, Casa Tesoro shares Naviva’s relaxed spirit. The seven-suite villa sits right on the beach and is often taken by families or small groups who want privacy while still enjoying the perks of a luxury resort. There’s an oceanfront spa and a multi-level infinity pool with in-water loungers, perfect for laps and naps. Other temptations include an oversized jacuzzi and a wine room for private sommelier-led tastings. Reserved together, the two properties create a small, easygoing pocket of the Pacific where life slows down.

Small in scale but big in soul, Naviva is one of those places that stays with you long after you leave. Rooted in nature, it reminds you that the real luxury is time that’s entirely your own.
