The best luxury hotels in Bali
Some of our favourite stays on the island
When it comes to luxury hotels, Bali pulls out all the stops. Whether you’re after a jungle escape, a stylish beachfront spot or a clifftop fantasy, the island has you spoiled for choice. Think private pools, world-class dining, and views so good they’ll ruin your screensaver. From over-the-top tents to design-forward resorts, here’s your guide to the best hotels in Bali.
Capella Ubud
This jungle camp brings a touch of 19th-century explorer drama to Bali, complete with brass monkeys, ikat cushions and tents that look like they’ve been pulled from a safari fever dream. Bill Bensley, the creative wizard behind Capella Ubud, made sure every tent has its own private plunge pool and quirky touches like vintage trunks and peek-a-boo shower windows. Come evening, it's marshmallows by the campfire after Indonesian omakase at Api Jiwa.
Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan
Arriving at the Four Seasons Sayan by crossing a bridge over a lush river valley is a hard act to follow, but this hotel manages. Tucked away outside Ubud, the resort feels like an exclusive treehouse for grown-ups, with private villas featuring jungle views and plunge pools. The spa is next-level indulgent and the Ayung Terrace restaurant serves up meals with a soundtrack courtesy of the Ayung River. You’ll feel just about as relaxed as you can get without levitating.
Potato Head Suites & Studios
Eco-conscious and impossibly cool, Potato Head is where sustainability meets serious style. The hotel feels like its own little village, with art galleries, music studios and a beach club that’s always buzzing. The rooms are decked out with reclaimed wood and mid-century furniture, and the zero-waste kits might just inspire you to sort out your own recycling at home. Bonus points for the rooftop bar with killer ocean views and the jamu bar serving traditional herbal tonics.
Six Senses Uluwatu
If “edge of the world” had a postcode, it’d be Six Senses Uluwatu. Perched on a clifftop with infinity pools that seem to dissolve into the ocean, this resort is part wellness retreat, part Instagram dream. The spa menu is as long as a novel, offering everything from sound healing to bespoke wellness screenings. Add king crab sushi at Crudo and the most spectacular sunsets on the island and you’ve got a stay worth every penny.
Bulgari Resort Bali
As you’d expect from Bulgari, this cliffside resort is dripping with sophistication. Its villas combine sharp Italian design with Balinese charm, offering private pools, lush gardens and unbeatable ocean views. There’s a private beach you’ll need a funicular to reach, fine dining by chef Luca Fantin, and a spa to top it all off. It’s all unapologetically opulent.
Raffles Bali
If you’re after privacy and panoramic views, Raffles Bali delivers both in spades. Set into Jimbaran Bay’s cliffs, each of the 32 villas boasts a private pool and uninterrupted ocean views from your bed. The hotel’s dining options include seafood feasts by the water and a five-course Balinese journey at Rumari. End your day at the Writer’s Bar with a Bali Sling in hand, watching the sky put on a multicoloured sunset show.
COMO Uma Canggu
Digital nomads, surfers and sunset chasers, this one’s for you. With a design that screams minimalist chic, COMO Uma Canggu on Echo Beach has everything from yoga studios and surf lessons to a lagoon pool you’ll never want to leave. The beach club is the place to be for Mediterranean mezze, live DJ sets and some of Bali’s best people-watching. It’s modern Bali living at its finest.
Amankila
Amankila is proof that classics never go out of style. This east coast icon has been charming guests for over three decades with its three-tiered infinity pool, stunning ocean views and villas connected by jungle walkways. Spend your days sipping passionfruit daiquiris, snorkelling from a private outrigger or simply gawping at Mount Agung in the distance. It’s the kind of place that’s managed to turn relaxation into an art form.
