Possibly the most modern makeover any of Amsterdam’s canalside merchants’ mansions has ever seen, the Andaz on Prinsengracht has a serious Alice in Wonderland vibe going on: dazzling light installations, huge hanging ceramic lampshades, high-backed red chairs and a parquet-floored courtyard for a start. Then there are the huge fish suspended above headboards, giant statues, looming clocks and eye-popping murals to make Alice proud, too.
