Guests checking in to the Ritz Paris will be in good company – the hotel has been a second home over the years to Coco Chanel (who moved in to suite 302 in 1937), F Scott Fitzgerald and Marcel Proust, who has a salon named in his honour. That golden age is alive and well (a jazz piano is still played, for a start), especially in the opulent rooms, with folding screens, elaborate drapery, chandeliers and gilt, and the decadent restaurants and bars.
