Cliveden House Hotel

Possibly the most desirable National Trust property in the country, Cliveden is a lesson in the art of the chintz-free country-house hotel. There may be a full suit of armour in the lobby, along with patterned carpets, huge oil paintings, grand wooden staircases and vast, antique-filled suites with stately, draped beds and corniced ceilings, but there’s not one mote of stuffiness here. Even the royals can’t get enough – previous regal visitors include Queen Victoria, and Meghan Markle the night before her wedding.
