Gstaad Palace

Gstaad, Switzerland

Gstaad has been the jet-set’s ski resort of choice for more than a century, largely thanks to this fairy-tale castle. Its opening-season clientele in the winter of 1913 was so fabulous, they had to install a ballroom the following spring, and before long celebrities including Louis Armstrong and Marlene Dietrich were scrabbling for a seat at its legendary galas. If the palace rooms and suites won’t quite do, book the Walig Hut high in the mountains, built in 1783 and hardly changed.
