Aman Summer Palace

The palace is actually next-door (though you’ll have impressively easy access, past pavilions and peaceful courtyards, to its East Gate), but you’d be forgiven for thinking the Aman was the imperial building here. Strolling the streets of Beijing will probably keep your Fitbit happy, but if you want to take it up a notch, descend underground to the subterranean pool, squash court and Pilates studio – where there’s also a spa and cinema for those inclined towards slightly less energy-expending activities.
