London may have many legendary nightspots, but few have a history as illustrious as that of Café Royal, host over the years to various seminal moments since it opened in 1865, including Ziggy Stardust’s Last Supper, a date between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, and pre-match banquets attended by Muhammad Ali.
It’s also where Oscar Wilde liked to hold court and there’s a suitably decadent lounge named in his honour today (though the afternoon-tea service is inevitably rather tamer)
